Foundation School

Mrs. Chhoun Ry lives nearby the Svay Bopharam Nippon Foundation School.
She is 40 years old.

On herself:

I have two sons and three daughters. They’re all studying at school. I’m a farmer. My husband works for the railway in Phnom Penh. He’s been working there for the past two years. I only get to see him once every month or two. My house is 500 meters from here.

On the new building:

I’m very happy to have a school near my house. It’s easier for the children to come and study here. Before they used to study in the pagoda compound. The students were worried about that school building being too old and about to collapse, and the rain would bother them. Whenever it rained, classes had to be cancelled. It must have been difficult to concentrate. Also, people had to pay money each year for repairs to the schools. Each year they had to pay 3,000 riel (ca. $0.75). Now they don’t need to pay anymore. Now, with this new school, all those problems are gone. Both students and teachers come to school regularly, and the students seem happy to study here.
