The Dixon Learning Center

(July, 2001)

Chan So is a student in fourth grade at the Dixon Learning Center. He is 15 years old and has five sisters. He is ranked first among 21 students in his class.

In Their Own Words. . .

on school subjects: “I like literature because I want to be able to read the newspaper. I also like geography when we study about Cambodia. I don’t like studying science.”

on his hobbies: “I help my parents with their work in the fields (they are farmers). I like to play football and volleyball.”

on his future: “I want to be a teacher because I want those younger than me to learn, too.”
on his dreams: “If I could go anywhere, I’d like to visit Thailand because I like to watch Thai programs on TV.”

on his family history: “My oldest sister never went to school. The second died in a household accident. My third sister is 18 and in third grade. She started school late like I did because where we used to live, in Taseng, there was fighting. We moved in 1991. My younger sister is seven and in first grade, and my youngest sister is too young for school.”
