Siem Mai is a 12-year-old 4th grade student at The Marais Family School; she ranked number five out of her 22 classmates in the last semester of 2006. She has four siblings and is the third child in her family.
“My mother is a farmer and my father is a soldier. My mother grows vegetable and raises chickens. She sells the chickens to villagers for extra money,” she said.
“I love my books, my study, I like to study Khmer, computer and English classes so I can find a good job and work with other people too. I like reading short story books for my younger siblings to listen to when I have free time,” she added.
“When I grow up I want to be a doctor so I can cure my parents and people in my village as well,” she said about her about her future ambitions.
