The Pothipreuk Nippon

Foundation School

Mrs. Hieng Sophan is the principal of the Pothipreuk Nippon
Foundation School.

On herself: I am twenty years old, and I have a one-year old daughter. My husband is a farmer. I live 15 km away from the Pothipreuk Nippon Foundation School. In order to get to school, I take a motodop [motorcycyle taxi]. The trip takes about half an hour. In 2002 I graduated from teacher school. This is my second year as school principal.

On the new building: I am very happy to have the new school building. It is great for the students to study in. All the problems of the old school are fixed by the new building. The rain or the sunshine will no longer bother the children through holes in the roof. The classrooms are also bigger, and the desks nicer. It is a strong building, and it will help preserve the teaching materials inside the classroom. Students studying at such a school are more motivated.

On teaching: I like teaching very much. Especially Khmer, social sciecne, and geography. Teaching is necessary to make children know and understand. With education, people can find their own jobs.

On encouraging the students: We encourage students by handing out prices. The five best students of any class receive three pencils, two books, and a ruler each, after the final examination.
