The Prey Kub Nippon

Foundation School

Khun Phearin is a 16-year-old sixth grade student at the Prey Kub Nippon Foundation School.
He was ranked third out of the 25 students in his class

On himself:

I have three sisters and two brothers; three of my siblings are studying here. My father is a photographer and my mother a farmer. Our house is 200 meters away from the school.

On the new building:

This building encourages all the children to study. Now more students will be able to go on to secondary school, because they will want to stay in school longer. The old school was simply too old. It had a tin roof with thatch. When it rained, the water would leak into the classroom. So whenever it rained, we couldn’t study.

On his spare time:

I take the same English lessons as well. It’s run by an international NGO, but our teacher is Khmer. I’ve studied there for two years already. I also help my parents with their work; I find and cut firewood.

In the future:

I want to become a doctor and cure patients, especially if any of my relatives get sick.

If he could travel anywhere:

There are many temples in Cambodia. I want to go to see all of them.
