The Yokogawa Rokumaru-kai School

Mr. Thong Han is the director of the Yokogawa Rokumaru-kai School. The signboard in the back reads: “Donated by Yokogawa Rokumaru-kai and Mr. Huot Sothoeun”

On himself:

I am 26 years old. I became a teacher three years ago and a director this year. Before I became a teacher, I spent two years at a teacher’s school. I am originally from this commune; my house is four kilometers away from the school. I only began teaching here this year. I teach fourth grade.

On the students:

Some students are good, some aren’t. Many are either too old or too young for each class. Some of the students study hard, but the others don’t take their studies seriously and study only a little. Those students are therefore behind.

On the new building:

I’m very happy with it. It’s easy to store school materials in this building. The old school wasn’t as good. Students would steal notebooks and pens from the school. Some students would break windows or doors in order to get firewood. Don’t ask me why… It was an old school, built in 1994.
