The Yukiko Ukai School
Chath Kunthea, a 13-year old girl in the 5th grade of the Yukiko Ukai School.
Chath Kunthea is a 13-year old girl in the 5th grade of the Yukiko Ukai School. She has three brothers and one sister; two of them also attend the school. The other two finished the 6th grade and stopped education because their secondary school was too far away (about 35 km in Sre Ambel commune). She is currently ranked 13th out of 20 students.
“At home, I help my mother by washing the dishes. I like to play jump rope during my free time. My home is fairly close so I just walk to school everyday.”
“The old building was hard to study in because it was always leaky. The new one, on the other hand, is easy and fun to be in.”
“I would like to visit Kampong Som (another name for Sihanoukville) again so that I could play and look at the waterfalls.” The director, Thoeun HeungSa, had taken the kids on a class trip there once before.
“I want to become a doctor in the future so that I could cure the people in the village.”
Message to donor: “Thank you for helping this school. I’ll try my best to study hard and make it to #1!”
