The Aeon Jasminum School

(August, 2001)

Sok Sen is a 13-year-old third grade student at the Aeon Jasminum School.  His parents are farmers and he has three brothers and a sister.  One of his sisters is in fifth grade at another primary school.  She goes there because there are not enough students for a fifth grade class at this school yet.

In Their Own Words. . .

On his future:  “I want to graduate from secondary school because it means that I will learn well and properly, so that I can grow up to help Cambodia.  I want to be a teacher because I want to see other students get knowledge.”

On school subjects: “I like Khmer because I want to learn how to read the newspaper and learn about the history of Cambodia.”

On leaving his village: “I have never left this village, but if I do, I want to go to Angkor Wat so that I can learn English and meet foreigners.”

Message for the Aeon Group: “I would like to deeply thank the Aeon Group for providing this village with a school.  It was kind of them.  Thanks from the kids here.”
