The Aeon Bougainvillea School

(July, 2001)

Meas Sang is a 13-year-old third grade student at the Aeon Bougainvillea School.  She was ranked 12th among the 56 students in her class.  She is an only child and her parents are farmers.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I like the new building because it a good building.  I have never seen something like it before.  It is very clean and it makes me excited to study.  I was not happy in the old building because very few kids came and other families wouldn’t send their children there to study.”

On school subjects: “I like applied science and Khmer.  I’m not sure why.  I don’t like mathematics because I am not good with numbers.”

On traveling: “I have never left this village.  If I could go anywhere or do anything, I wouldn’t go anywhere because I am afraid that my mother would get angry at me for leaving.”

On her hobbies: “I help my parents with the farming and do my chores when I am not at school.”

On her future: “I want to go to secondary school if my mother lets me.  I want to be a teacher when I grow up because I want to help the village.”

Message for the Aeon Group: “I would like to thank the Aeon Group for this school.”
