The Aeon Jackfruit School

(July, 2001)

Perang Sansha is a 15-year-old fifth grade student at the Aeon Jackfruit School.  He was ranked tenth out of his 55 classmates.  He has a brother and sister in school with him.  His parents are farmers and he walks 3 km from home to school every class day.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “The new school building helps the village because it allows more students to learn, and more families are interested in the new building, so they send their children to study here.”

On school subjects: “I like Khmer because I want to understand Cambodian history and culture.  I don’t like essays and grammar practice, though.  It is too difficult for me to understand.”

On his future: “I would like to graduate from secondary school.  If I can do that, I will be the first in my family to finish secondary school.  I want to be a teacher because I want to pass education on to people younger than me.”
