Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Meng Leang Mai

Meng Leang Mai is 13 years old and she is in grade 7 at Koh Roka Secondary School, in Chrey Thmey village, Koh Roka Commune, Peam Chor District, Prey Veng Province.

Meng Leang Mai has three sisters and one brother, and she is the first child in her family. Her parents are farmers. She has 30 square meters of farmland. The family weighs 600 kg per year, which is just enough to provide for the family and for their child. When the farming season is over, her parents aren’t working. Additionally, the family doesn’t have pets.

Meng Laeng Mai gets 1500 Riel a day for her studies and rides her bike cycle to school every day. Meng Leang Mai is a hard student, and she is always a good student in the class. After school, Meng Leang Mai is responsible for helping their mother with housework and going to learn part-time.

In the future, Meng Leang Mai wants to be an English teacher. Then she graduates in grade 12. Because she likes to study English, and she wants to share it with students. Moreover, she wants to earn an income that can better support her family.
