The Nayoro Keiryo School

Khot Khan is a 14-year-old third grader at the Nayoro  Keiryo School.
(August, 2001)

Khot Khan is 14 years old.  He is studying in third grade at the school and was ranked ninth among his 48 classmates.  His parents are farmers and he has four sisters. Two of them are also the students at this school. His house is about 500 m away from the school. He walks to school every day.

In Their Own Words

On the new building:  “The new school is much larger than the old one.  It is not crowded and is a nice place to study.  At the old school, we could not study when it rained.  I didn’t like studying there.  I like coming to school now in my free time because I can meet with my friends and talk.”

On school subjects: “I like Khmer and then social studies because those two subjects are easy.”

On traveling: “I have never left this province, but if I could go abroad, I would like to go to France.  I think France is the best and most developed country in the world.”

On his future: “When I grow up I want to be a nurse or doctor because I want to cure poor people when they are ill.”

Message for donor:  “I would like to thank the Hokkaido Nayoro Keiryo group for giving us a school and I wish them prosperity.”
