The Daun Bar Nippon

Foundation School

Roeun Den is a 14 years old fourth grade student at the Daun Bar Nippon Foundation School.
Out of the 48 students in her class, she was ranked eighth.

On herself: I have four siblings, but I am the only one going to school. My parents are farmers. They grow rice, watermelons, corn, bananas, cucumbers, pumpkins, yams, and green and string beans. Some of them we sell, the others we eat. My house is a ten-minute walk from here.

On the new building:

I am very happy to have a new school. It’s very easy for me to study in it. The old school was made of wood, but the wood was rotten, and it only had a thatched roof. I didn’t feel like studying there as much as I do now. After the second grade, my mother sent me to another school. That school was also made of concrete and good to study, but it was far from here (1.5 km). It took me 30 minutes to get there. When the new school was built, I moved here.

Favorite subject: I like Khmer language the most, but what’s most fun at school is jumping rope.

On her spare time:

I help my mother with the housework. I cook rice and take care of my brothers and sisters.

In the future:

I want to be a farmer just like my parents are.

If she could do anything:

I would be a teacher.

If she could travel anywhere

USA. I want to see what the life there is like.
