The Phoum Kor Nippon

Foundation School

Chhorn Chhay is a thirteen year-old, third grade student at the Phoum Kor Nippon Foundation School. He is the top of his class of 42 students.

On himself:

I have four siblings, but I am the only one to attend this school. I am the middle child. My parents are both farmers, and they grow rice, cucumbers, string beans, and pumpkins. Sometimes they go to a jungle and fish. I live three minutes away from the school, southwest of this village.

On the new building:

I am very happy to have a new school, and I like studying here. The rain doest not disturb us and it’s very comfortable to study. I often come here to play soccer with my friends. Many people come to the school to play.

Favorite subject:

Applied science. I like to read clear letters. What I mean by that is that I like to understand how to read precisely.

On his spare time:

I chop firewood for my parents. Apart from that, I also collect water that I use to water our crops.

In the future:

I want to be a teacher. I would like to teach young children.

If he could do anything:

I’d like to be a doctor.

If he could travel anywhere:

I would travel to Battambang. I want to go to a very nice place.
