The Kon Ka Ek Nippon

Foundation School

Mr. Mean Sot is the chair of the Kon Ka Ek Nippon Foundation School committee.

On himself: I am sixty-one years old. I have four children. My son-in-law is a teacher at this school. My wife was a teacher at the old school. I live six hundred meters from the school. I used to be the school director here, but now I’m retired. I was just elected as chief of the school committee last November. Altogether there are nine members in the committee. My main task is to encourage more students to come to school. Also, whenever the school lacks materials, I ask villagers for donations. We just made a fence around the school, but so far we only have the posts. We’re still missing the barbed wire.

On the new building: I am very glad that we got the new school. Before we used to have classes in a pagoda. We had three teaching shifts a day. Classes were held under a roof, which also served as the monks’ kitchen. It was very difficult to teach there, so of course I’m happy now. The other school near the pagoda has nine rooms. We use one room for an office, and the students use the other eight.
