The Cambodia Rural School Project

The Yeang Dan Kum Nippon

Foundation School

Rang Rong is a third grade student at the Yeang Dan Kum Nippon Foundation School.
He is a new student this year.

On himself:

I am fifteen years old. Two of my three siblings are at this school. Before I came here, I was studying at another primary school. But my teacher decided to teach at this school and I moved with him. Now I live only 200 meters from the school. My father works as a lumberjack for a company, and my mother sells vegetables at home.

On the new building:

I am very happy to have this new building. It is much nicer and more solid than my old school. It is easier to study here, because I don’t have to worry about the rain any more just like we did in the old school.

Favorite subject:

Khmer language. It is easier than math because the teacher uses many pictures when he teaches. I like pictures because they make the class interesting.

In his spare time:

I go to get water and prepare meals. When I don’t work, I play soccer with my friends.

In the future:

I want to continue studying till I finish high school. Then I’d like to be a policeman because there are too many thieves these days.

If he could travel anywhere:

I would go to my homeland near the border with Vietnam. I forgot the name of the village because I left there when very young. Now the village is a part of Vietnam.
