The Prey Chan Nippon

Foundation School

Poeu Sokhom is a third-grade student at the Prey Chan Nippon Foundation School.
Out of the nineteen students in her class she was ranked first.

On herself:

I am fourteen years old. I have one brother and one sister. They’re both at school. My father cuts and sell trees. My parents also have a small plot of land where they grow oranges, gourds, and cucumber. Our house is just down the road from the school.

On the new building:

I am very happy with the new school. Before, all my classes were held under a tree. It was difficult to study that way: when it rained, classes would stop; when it was windy, branches of the tree would fall down. Now there are no problems and I can study very comfortably.

Favorite subject:

Every day I study Khmer, math, social studies, and science. Among them math is my favorite. If I know math, nobody can cheat me when I buy or sell things.

On her spare time:

I boil water, wash clothes, and help my mother carry coal to sell to the Thais.

In the future:

I want to work by myself. I want an independent job like, say, a nurse.

If she could travel anywhere:

I want to see China.
