The Cambodia Rural School Project

The Angkor Ban Nippon

Foundation School

Mr. Sam Nim is a farmer nearby the Angkor Ban Nippon Foundation School. He is 48 years old.

On himself:

I’m a farmer; I plant peanuts and corn. My wife is also a farmer. I have three sons and four daughters. Three of my daughters are studying at this school. I’ve lived here since 1979 because of the war. I used to live in Ratanak Mondoul, also in Battambang province. Our house is 150 meters away from the school.

On the new building:

I am very happy, because this school is comfortable for my children and it’s nearer to our house. Most of the children in this village can come and study here. The old school only had one room, so some children had to go to another school, which was 2.5 km away.

Most people in this village have lived here for a long time. It borders Tahiland, so it’s easy to get a job here. Most people moved here when the war [with Vietnam] started. This used to be Khmer Rouge territory.
