The John Coats School

Mr. Tay Moly is the director of the John Coats School.

He is fifty-two years old. He lives right next to the school, together with his wife and seven children. Three of his children attend the John Coats School, in the first, third, and fifth grade. Mr. Tay has been a teacher  since 1980, and a director since 1991.

On the new building: Before we had the new building, it was difficult to teach. The old building was made of wood, and the roof and walls had holes in them. It was hard for the students to learn. Students like to study in the new building very much.

On teaching: I became a teacher, because I believe that the people should possess Khmer
knowledge. Teaching is important, for it instills knowledge in others. With
more knowledge, people will help develop their village.

Favorite subject to teach: I prefer teaching science. Scientists know how to take care of animals and
how to better grow crops.

On encouraging students: I encourage my students by giving them gifts. The five best students receive
a pen and a notebook each.
