Foundation School

Mr. Den Doeun is a teacher at the Phnom Touch Nippon Foundation School.
He is 31 years old

On himself:

I teach math to eighth and ninth grade students. I’ve been a teacher since 1992. I’ve only taught secondary school for one year. I’ve had some problems teaching secondary school because I’m only trained as a primary school teacher. But the secondary school needed some more teachers and the job pays better. I still feel I lack some technical skills. I’ve not yet married. My house is 15 km away from the school but I drive a motorcycle to school every morning. If it doesn’t rain, the ride takes half an hour.

On the new building:

I’ve enjoyed teaching much more since the new school was finished. Both students and teachers come to school more regularly, not sporadically like they used to do. I used to teach at Phnom Prek Primary School. The old school was made of wood. It was located in a pagoda compound and only had three classrooms. There were no walls between the classrooms, only a blackboard. When it started raining, the rain would disturb the class.
