Foundation School

Aouk Sokhea is a 13-year-old third grade student at the O Lahong Nippon Foundation School.
She was ranked ninth in her class of 44 students

On herself:

I have two brothers and two sisters. I’m the second child in my family following my elder sister. My younger sister and one of my brothers study here with me. My parents are both farmers. Our house is just down the road from the school.

On the new building:

I’m happy because I have the opportunity to study at the new building. The old building had an old wall and roof. It couldn’t keep the rain out.

Favorite subject:

I like applied science; it gives examples of, say, how to cultivate a garden.

On her spare time:

I help my parents with their work. I often plant peanuts.

If she could have any one wish:

Then I would want to be a teacher, because I would like it if people called me “Neak Krou” [Khmer for “teacher” (feminine)].
