The Samdech Ta Nippon

Foundation School

Mr. Kom Borat is the director of the Samdech Ta Nippon Foundation School.

On himself: I am twenty seven years old. I have worked as a director for two years. I teach grades one and five. I love teaching, especially Khmer literature. When I passed my final exams in highschool, I realized I qualified to become a teacher. I went on to take my teaching exam in Phnom Penh, but was assigned to Koh Kong province. My wife and three children still live in Phnom Penh. I go back there once a month.

On the new building: The new building is great. I’ve never been to a school as nice as this one. It’s easy to teach in, and the students are more appreciative of the school. Thank you [Nippon Foundation] profoundly for building this new school for the children.

How to motivate the students: We show pictures, use gestures etc. to make the classes more interesting, rather than just talk. When students pass their exams, we give small gifts to the top five students of each class. The gifts are usually pencils and rulers.
