The Sralao Torng Nippon

Foundation School

Mr. Li Thai is the community leader in the village where the Sralao Torng Nippon Foundation School is located. Behind him the kitchen for the school food program (through UNICEF) is being constructed.

On himself: I am sixty-five years old. I have six children. Six of my grandchildren attend [the Sralao Torng Nippon Foundation School]. Before, I used to be a simple villager. But the others know that I am an old man, and could help them supervise the school. The school director handles the students and teachers. My job is to bring community support for the school. I’ve organize the villagers into building a kitchen We’re purchasing the kitchen equipment and additional ingredients, and UNCIEF provides the rice.

On the new building: I am very happy with the new building. Everybody is. We’ve never had a building like this. We are very proud of this school. It makes the village look prosperous. Our village is in a remote area, far away from any town. This used to be a Khmer Rouge area. I would like to thank the Japanese donor and Social Fund for helping us with a new building for our poor village and its children.
