On herself:

I have three children; one daughter and one son are studying at the new school. I cross into Thailand for work, where I can do several things: I plant rice, cucumber, or sugarcane. I usually work for private farmers with a lot of land. In one day I can make 50 bahts. I do this work every day. My husband does the same work, and he gets the same pay as mine. My hours are 7-11, and 12-4 o’clock. Our house is only 1 km from the border, and then another 3 km to the fields. I walk there every day.

On the new building:

The new building makes me very happy. It makes me and the other villagers around here encourage and expect our children to get a good job in the future. When we had only the old school, there still were many students, but not enough rooms to accommodate all of them. Now more students can come to school than before.
This place used to be a quiet forest. Most people who live here are poor. We have the border with Thailand, which helps us find some work, but we’re still poor. When the new school was built, all of us were very happy, because it means that our lives will be better and more sustainable. I also think that it’s very generous of the donor to give us a school, and want to express my thanks for the assistance. |
