Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chan Nai

Chan Nai is 12 years old, a student in 4th grade at The Ascham School community, in Poutaing village, Romney commune, Senmonorom district, Mondulkiri province.

Chan Nai has two brothers and one sister, and is the second child in the family. Her parents are farmers, owning one hectare of farmland that they can grow cashew trees to gather about 300 kg of cashew nut per year. The income from selling cashew nuts just enough to survive in the family with food a year. When the farming season is over, her parents go to work as labor worker to dig the well in the village and they can earn 30,000 riels a day. Nai walks up and down hill every day to school by having 500 riels a day for her study at school.

Chan Nai is a hard working student. She is always a good student in class. After school, she has to be hurry back home to help her mother with housework and take care her siblings.

In the future, Nai wants to be a teacher, so she can pass on the Khmer history and knowledge to the next new generation. Moreover, she wants to earn salary to support her family in better life.
