The Keizo School

Nang Chheuth is a third grade student at the Keizo School. He is fifteen years old and is ethnically Tom Puon, one of Cambodias several minorities. He has one sister and two brothers. One of his younger brothers is also studying at the new school. His parents are both farmers. He walks for five minutes to get to school.

On the study: “I am good at Khmer, for it is easier to learn than the other subjects. The most difficult subject is mathematics. But it is not the fault of the teacher, but is my fault. I can write Khmer language, but I can’t speak it fluently. I have proposed that my teacher explain us in our own [Tom Puon] language when there is something we’re not so clear on.”

On his future: “When I grow up I want to be a teacher so that I myself can also continue to study.
