The Keizo School

Mr. Kos Khyoung is a fifty year-old farmer. He is ethnically Tom Puon.
He has five children and two of them study at the Keizo School.

On himself: “My family has one hectare of land to grow rice on. For each harvest the field yields 1.5 tons of rice. That’s enough to support my family with rice year round. My living condition is ok, but my health is poor. As I am getting old, I always fall ill. Each time I go to see a doctor, it’s in the district own of Bar Keo, 30 km away from the village, and I have to pay 40.000 riels to 50.000 riels [$10 to $13] for transportation and treatment fees. I wish my village would have a doctor or nurse to help us villagers.

On the new building: “I am happy with the new concrete building. I believe that with the new school my children will overcome their illiteracy. I don’t want them to follow my example, and stay illiterate; I want my children to continue with their study as long as possible. When they finish school they can decide by themselves what to do next. The first step is to get educated at this primary school.”
