The Adler Family School

Toeur Vichika is a fourth grade student at the Adler Family School. She is thirteen years old.
She was ranked second in the first semester of this year among her 30 classmates.
She has two sisters and two brothers, and two of her brothers are also studying at the new school. She is the eldest of her siblings. Her house is near the school and she walks only for five minutes to get to school.

On her studies:

“At school, I am good at Khmer. I am bad at numbers and think that language is easier to learn than mathematics. In a language class, even if you spell something wrong, you can still remember what the meaning is.”

On herself:

“I was born in the Phou Noy refugee camp at the Cambodian-Thai border then controlled by the Khmer Rouge. That is why I can speak Khmer fluently, even though I am ethnically Tom Puon. My family moved to here from the camp four years ago. ”

On the new building:

“The new building has enough desks for us and is not crowded any more as it did when I studied in the old building. I am happy with the new building.”

On her future:

“When I grow up I want to be a nurse or a doctor and want to treat my father who has a stomach disease. My dad likes to eat chili during meals, but he dislikes drinking alcohol.”
