The Adler Family School

Tau Hin is a fourth grade student at the Adler Family School.
He is eighteen years old and is ethnic Tom Puon.
He was ranked first among his 30 classmates in the first semester of this year.
He has four sisters and two brothers.
His parents are both farmers. He walks for five minutes to get to school.

On his studies:

“At school, I am good at mathematics and Khmer language, but I prefer Khmer to mathematics. Now I can read it, but I still don’t understand all the words because Khmer is not my mother tongue. However, it is still easier to learn than mathematics. Applied science is the most difficult subject for me.”

On the new building:

“Last year I studied at the old and small wooden building. It was very hot inside and I used to sweat a lot during the class. Now at the new school, it’s different. It is cool inside, and has enough desks and a better blackboard. I am happy with the new school.”

On the future:

“When I grow up I want to be a teacher and educate my people so that they can get good jobs as the Khmer people do. Being ethnic Tom Puon, we are less educated than the Khmer. It is more common for Khmer people to have good education than it is for us.”
