The Louise Zlatic Kielbik School

Eng Sophy, a 14-year old 5th grade student at the Louise Zlatic Kielbik School.

Eng Sophy is a 14-year old 5th grade student. He has two brothers and three sisters. Three of them come to study at the new school. His parents are farmers in the village. His home is about one kilometer away from school. He walks to school everyday.

“At school I like studying math and social studies. I need to know arithmetic well so that I can do business using addition, subtraction, division, or multiplication.”

“For me, social studies is an easier subject to learn than Khmer literature because the lesson is not difficult and complicated in comparison.”

“Sometimes both my parents force me to help with the farm during school time because there is nobody around to help. They need people to help them, but I sometimes don’t obey and insist on going to school instead. They get angry with me, but they never harm me.”
