Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chan Sonita

Chan Sonita is a 10 years old student in 4th grade at The Ascham School, which is located in Putang village, Romnear commune, Senmonorom district, and Mondulkiri province.

She is the second child in the farmer family. Her parents have one hectare of farmland for growing cashew and raising one pig.  Her parents have gathered about 400 kilograms of rice product per year but that amount of rice cannot afford the family for a whole year.

On the other hand, her parents got some extra income from selling things such as vegetables that they grow and it yet not enough to support the food, clothes, uniforms, and school supplies for their children. Sonita hopes that if she is lucky to get the support of $10 every month she will try to study hard and she could use that money also to support the need of her family.

Chan Sonita wants to be a teacher because she wants to share knowledge and education to students in her community as well as be able to help financially support her family.
