Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Lour Sreyneang is a 14 years-old student in Grade 8th at The Naohiro Nishiya School in Opork Samky Village, Meanrith Commune, Sandann District, Kampong Thom Province.

Lour Sreyneang has got five brothers and she is the first child in her family. Her parents are farmers but they don’t have their own land for growing rice. Therefore, they have rent the land of their neighbor to transplant the rice in order to comfort their living. Otherwise, the yield they have gotten from rice cultivation was fewer amounts. They have got about seven sacks of rice per year and for the half amount of seven sacks of rice they have had to recompense to the landlord.

Sreyneang’s parents have foreseen they couldn’t afford the family sufficiently so the father of Sreyneang has forcefully decided to go to the jungle to find wild animal and cutting wood to sell. Whereas Sreyneang said that, sometimes she was hired to work at the rice field in order to get some incomes to support her family’s needs and the income that she has ever received the hiring was about $4.00 per day.

In the future she wants to be a primary teacher in her village. She wants to improve the quality of education, to gives back to her community, and to change the lives of the people in her community those factor lets her takes part in shaping the next generation and sharing with a new generation of student.
