Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Rathanak Sreyngeab is 8 years old and she is studying grade 3 at the Masako Sato School in Putreng village, Dak Dam commune, Orang district and Mondulkiri province.

Rathanak Sreyngeab has two siblings, a brother and a sister. She is the older sister in the family. Her parents are farmers they have their own farmland about a hectare and they’re planting rice, corn, cassava and some vegetables to provide their family. Every year they can produce rice from 700 to 900kg of rice but, this year it can produce only 500 or 600kg of rice but they keep for daily eating in a whole year and also produce about 1800kg of cassava.  The rice doesn’t give high yield because, it don’t have enough water and the weather is too hot and no rain much as well. Beside this her family hired to planting rice, cassava, Coffee and cashew and get 20000 riels per day in planting season. In harvest season they hired to harvest again to get more income. However, the income doesn’t enough to support the family. Rathanak Sreyngeab helps her mother to looks after her sister and does housework after class.

In the future Rathanak Sreyngeab wants to become an English teacher because English language is the most spoken language in a large number of countries, with English we can communicate and work with people around the world, and we also can learn or search to know everything from other countries though the internet, and especially if we knew English we can get a good job. That why she wants to become English teacher to share the knowledge to the young generation in her village to be able to speak English. Sreyngeab also wants to help her family.
