Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Phon Sreyneth is 14 years old, student in 8th grade at Angk Daun Pis Village Learning Center (#550), located in Angk Daun Pis Village, Toeuk La-ak Commune, Korng Pisey District, Kampong Speu province.

There are 7 members in her family, her parents, 3 brothers, one sister and her. She is the fifth child in the family. Her father name: Long Yorn, 50 years old, her mother name: Nov Lis, 43 years old, they both are farmers. They have one hectare of farmland where they can produce rice around 2,500 – 3,000 kg per year and they also have two cows. All the rice they can gather is preserve to use for the family during a year and to support the other need in the family including children school materials. Out of farm work, her father also makes fresh palm juice to sell to villagers, in a day of the season he can earn about 20,000 riels per day.

Every day, Sreyneth rides her bicycle to school about 3 km round-trip. She is also a smart student in class, and tries to study very hard. After school, she comes back home to help her mother housework, and if she has free time she likes to read books and review her lesson and homework from school.

In the future, she wants to be a teacher to teach the students in rural area, she hopes that education can help people from poverty, and they can change from using their own power to use brain for their daily live. Especially, she wishes to help her family to get better life.
