Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sorn Chanlin

Sorn Chanlin is 16 years old and is in the ninth grade. She lives in Prey Russey Village, Chuom Songke, Phnom Srouch District, Kompong Spue Province. She is the second child in her family and has two sisters and a brother.

Her father’s name is Ching Surn. He is 42 years old and is a farmer.

Her mother’s name is Kav Nara. Unfortunately, she passed away when Chanlin was only 5 years old. Now her father has another wife and her name is Pin Leakena. She is 38 years old, and her job is to help with her husband’s work.

The family has a farmland of about one hectare for growing rice where her family can produce about 800 kg to 1000kg of rice per year.

When the parents are not working on the farm, they are burning charcoal to sell. They get about $75 from this job, per month.

Every day, after Chanlin wakes up, she has to clean the house, feed the cows, and then go to school. After school, she has to cook for her siblings because her parents are at work.

Her hobby is to bathe the cows. She loves the colors red and white, and her favorite animal is of course, cows.

In the future, she wants to be a soldier because she would like to protect the land of Cambodia and help her family obtain a better future.
