Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Vourn Vouoch Cheng is an eleven-year-old student in the fifth grade at Wat Thmey primary school loacated in Takhong village, Trean commune, Kampong Siem district, Kampong Cham Province.

Vuoch Cheng has two sisters, and is the second child in the family. Her parents are both farmers, but this job doesn’t support the family, as their land is very small. The family is able to collect 1.5 tons of rice per year, which is just enough to provide the family with food for one year but is not enough to sell. The family owns two cows to plow their farmland.

Vuoch cheng usually rides her bike to school, but sometimes she has to walk as her bike is old and breaks a lot. Vuoch Cheng is a good student in class and she always helps her mother with housework in her free time.

In the future, she wants to be a doctor because her father is ill, and she wants to be able to help him.
