Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sovann Chan kompheak is an eleven-year-old student in the fifth grade at Wat Thmey primary school located in Takhong village, Trean commune, Kampong Siem district, Kampong Cham Province.

Kompheak has six siblings; four brothers and two sisters. She is the fifth child in the family. Her parents are farmers, owning a small piece of land that can produce a small amount of rice. Her brother helps financially support the family, working as a seasonal worker, earning 30,000 Riels per day. In the rainy season, Kompheak catches crabs, oysters and fish to sell at the market to help support her family.

Kompheak works hard in school and continues her hard work when she gets home by helping her mother with housework and taking care of her younger sibling.

Kompheak wants to be a doctor in the future so she can help her community and support her family.
