Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Met Chhai is a 9 years old student in 4th grade at the David and Deborah Roberts School, which is located in Taream village, Tbaeng commune, Kampong Svay
district, Kampong Thom province.

Met Chhai has five siblings, one elder brother, three elder sisters, and her. She is the fifth child in her family. Her father’s name is Tuon Met, 56 years old. Her mother’s name is Toen Sey, 44 years old. They are fishers. They do not have their owned farmland. Her parents always go out every day to hunt for fishes in far or nearby places by using net. They catch fish about 5-6 kg a day and sell about 30,000 to 35,000 riels. They haven’t received enough income to solve their family’s livelihood. Especially, they cannot save any money for the sickness reserve, when their children sick, they have to borrow the money from neighbor and will pay the debt back when they got fishes and sell it. They are very appreciated and happy if their daughter can join the GBA’s project. They’re really happy because they wanted their child study until the higher grade. They hope this project can help them to reduce their daily expenses for children’s school and materials fee. Chhai is a good child she usually helps her parents, wash the dishes, clean home and other housework.

In her future, Chhai wants to be a nurse that can help people and her family too.
