Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Mao Phanmei was born on April 03, 2002 in Doeum Dong village, Cham Pei Commune, Baty District, Takeo province. She is in the 8th grade at Trakiet Secondary school (The Rita Hochhauser School).

Mao Phanmei has 6 siblings, 2 brothers and 4 sisters including her, she is the youngest child in family. Her brothers and sisters are studying in the same school. Her father’s name is Mr. Mao Soeurn and her mother’s name is Suon Kong (both passed away). They are orphans, some of her siblings are married and some are still single. Recently, her siblings and she are living with her grandmother. Her grandmother owns one hectare of farmland where she can earn about $250 per year from rice products. Some of her elder siblings are working in the different factories to support their own family and the siblings who are staying with grandmother have to help their grandmother to grow the rice out of school time. The total income from the rice product in a year cannot event support for the daily life, so the living life of her siblings and grandmother are in a very difficult situation.

Mao Phanmei wants to be a Khmer teacher. She hopes to help teaching the children and the illiterate people in her village.
