Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Ly Vieng is 13 years old, and in the 8th grade at the Rak Smey Rik Raey junior high school in Bos Village, Rik Reay Commune, Rovieng District, Preah Vihear Province.

There are 5 members in her family, two parents, one younger sister and one younger brother. She is the first child in her family. Her parents are farmers, owning one and a half hectares of farmland to grow rice, producing 1,500 kg of rice per year. Her family has a paddy field that is far away from home. When planting or harvesting season arrives, her parents have to leave home for about a month in order to work on the farm. So Ly Vieng stays at home to take care of her younger siblings.  When she is not busy taking care of her younger siblings, she has to help in the rice field as well.

Ly Vieng is a good student and daughter, she works hard in school, and when she is not studying, she is helping her mother with housework, taking care of her young siblings or working on the farm.

In the future she wants to be a teacher because she loves this job and wants to share her knowledge with the kids and make money for her family.
