Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Yam Chan Serey

Yam Chan Serey is a 10 year-old student in 4th grade The Vasaskolan School in Angbaksey village, CheangToung commune, Tram Kak district, Takeo province.

Serey has three siblings: a brother and a sister. She is the first child in the family. Her parents are farmers but the rice harvest is not enough to feed their family. Serey’s mother can only do farm work, while also looking after the children. To make extra money to support her family, Serey has to transplant rice seedlings for the neighbors. In addition, she and her father also catch fish, crabs and snails for food and for selling in the village.
