Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Heang Mengchoing

Heang Mengchoing is a 12 year-old student who entered the Girls Be Ambitious program in 2014. At the time, she enrolled in the fourth grade at The Lotus School in Prek Dambouk Village, Kampong Chamlorng Commune, Khsach Kandal District, Kandal Province. She is now in the sixth grade.

There are five members in the family and she is the second daughter in the family. She has two siblings:  a sister and a brother. Her poor family earns a living by doing farm work on 600 m2 of farmland, but their yearly harvest cannot cover their needs throughout the year. In addition to farm work, her mother sells Khmer cakes to their neighbors for make extra money to support her family. Her mother said that although her family works very hard, they still face a lot of difficulties. They cannot make enough money to support the daily needs of their family.

With the support from the GBA program, Mengchoin is very enjoying school and maintains high attendance.
