Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Meang Mean

Meang Mean is 12 years old, a student in grade 4 at The Mr. and Mrs. Sak Nhep School and she is living in Chorng Ra Village Batang Commune, Lumphat District, Ratanakiri Province.

Meang Mean is the second child in an ethnic minority family with an older sister and one little brother. Her father is a farmer and he has got a house-land with 10m by 20m and owns a hectare of farmland where they can grow potatoes, vegetables, and rice. They can gather 500 kg of the potatoes and 400 kg of rice per year and vegetables just enough to feed the family, those products can be more or less are depended on natural weather. He sometimes goes to find for an extra job at Ban Lung town and he earns about $7.50 per day. Her mother is a housewife; she does her housework and looks after her little son.

Meang Mean is a very hard girl and a good student everyone at school knows her well because she works hard on all subjects and she always goes to school by bike and by walking her home is about 3 kilometers from school.  After school, she helps her mum in cooking and she sometimes finds for works near her home like picking up cashew fruits to support her family as well.

In the future, she wants to be a doctor because she wants to help all the people in her village; she thinks that the hospital is so far from her village.
