Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Roun Sophon

Sophon is 15 years old student in 8th grade at The Nozomi School # 348 donated by David Sneider and Naomi Pollock Family. Located: Khchass Village, Khchass Commune, Saut Nikum District, and Siem Reap Province. Sophon is the second child in the family, with one younger brother and one older brother. Her family has no farmland so her parents owned one hectare of farmland for growing rice. The rice can produce 10 sacks of rice per year and the production quantity of one sack of rice is about 75 – 80 kilograms. After gathering rice is completely her mother needs to sell some of the rice with the cost of $100 to pay back for the fertilizers and the land owner and some of the money to support the family and buy food that is not enough for a year. Although, they earned little income from selling rice but that income couldn’t settle the family well, therefore, her father has to work as the builder that so far from home at the city and got $3 per day and work someday only but still not enough for support the kinds to school and food for every day. Sophon is a good student. After school, she goes home to help her parents with house work. In her free time, she likes to read the books and review the lessons from school and help the mother to cook meals for her family and look after her brother.

Sophon wants to be a teacher when she grows up. She wants to help all the poor kids and the most she wants to earn money to support her family to be better in the future.
