Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Keo Sopheany is 14 years old, and is in grade 7 at the Pluk secondary School in pluk village, pluk commune, sesan district, Stung Treng Province.

There are eleven members in her family, her parents and three sisters, six brothers. She is the sixth child in her family. Her family is so poor and they rent half a hectare of farmland, which can produce 1,620kg of rice per year. So they pay rice 300kg per year to the landowner. After her farm work, her parents are going to hire laborer and can receive wage 20,000 riel per day for one person, but they can’t do this work everyday. They are also growing a few kinds of vegetables for family. Nowadays, their families are very hard to live by trying to earn money for feed their children. For rice production in per year there is not enough food. They would like to express gratitude to the organization and sponsors that give scholarship for their daughter, even though it is not sufficiently supportive of the family’s needs, but also reduces her family’s expenses. Sopheany promised to go to school regularly.

Sopheany she wants to be a teacher in the future because she things teachers have be able to support a lot of many students in the social work, especially human resources training and she would like to support her family to live in a better life.
