Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Kakada is13years old and she is in grade 8 at The Doris Dillon School in Phnom Toch village, Sdach Kong Khang Tboung Commune, Ben Teay Meas District, Kampot province.

She is the second child in the family and she has two siblings. Her father’ name Mr. Tom Chun and her mother’ name Mrs. Kenh Oun. They do not have their own land for growing rice. Therefore, they rent their neighbor’s land for farming. Their yearly harvest is about 500kg of rice, but they have to return half of that rice to the landowner.  Kakada’s father commonly has to go on trips to work as a construction worker.  One day they can earn $6.  This means, that even with this additional income, the parents do not have enough money to support the family and their children’s everyday needs. As a result, Kakada sometimes is absent from school to help her parents to look after her sibling and her housework.

Kakada wants to be a doctor; she thinks that, she can help all the people in her commune, because the hospital is very far from her local.  Also, she wants to earn money to support her family to be better.
