Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Thida is fifteen years old student in 9th grade at The Tokatsu Espoir School, which is located in Ta Khong village, Trien commune, Kampong Siem district and Kampong Cham province.

Thida’s family consist five members including her parents, her two younger sisters and her, who is the first child in the family. Her father’s name is Mr. Seart Sout, 41 years old. Her mother’s name is Mrs. Srean Dy, 36 years old and they are farmers.

Her family is poor and owned 0.2 hectare of farmland for growing rice. The rice can produce 10 sacks of rice in a year (1 sack of rice is about 85-90 kilogram). Thida confirmed that every year her parents grow rice depends on natural raining only. After the rice’s yield collection her parents sold out 4 sacks and got 80$ to pay back to shop owner for the fertilizers and some remaining money they paid for food. However, it was not enough for daily expenses for a whole year, said by Thida.

Every day, she goes to school by her old bicycle and sometime she went to school by her friend’s motorcycle because the school was so far from her home about 10 kilometers.

In her free time, she likes doing housework, doing homework, and doing exercise. In her future goal, she dreams to be a teacher because she wants to help young children in her village and she loves this career in order to earn some money to support her family.
