Phuma Vichka is 14 years old, a student in Grade 8th of the Phluk Secondary School, donated by Michael and Elizabeth Simmons located in Phluk Commnune, Sesan District, Stung Treng Province.
Vichka has four brothers and two sisters and she is a second child in the family. Her father name: Chann Phuma, 40 years old and her mother name: Thong Torng, 39 years old, they are farmers. They have owned 0.5 hectare of farmland where they can produce 1,250 kg of rice in year, all the rice products they kept to eat in the family during a year. The situation of her family is poor and her parents are trying very hard to earn more money to support family, especially, their children studies”. Beside the rice season, her parents have to go out to get the labor work at different villages, during two months they both can earn about $460 to help support the need in the family and the children have to help growing vegetable around the house land for food and if sometimes the yield gave better product they can sell for money to support the family need. Not all the income is enough to support the whole family daily need. Her parents would like express their heartfelt thanks to the organization and sponsors for the scholarship to their daughter, even though it is not sufficiently for the whole of the family’s needs, but can help to reduce their family’s expenses.
Vichka is a hard working student. She promised to come to school regularly for her scholarship support and she will show to her parents the monthly supported money to her parents.
In the future, she wants to be a teacher; she hopes to teach the children at primary school in or nearby her village. She is strongly believes that education can help bring people away from poverty.
