To Be Selected
Doung Ya is 16 years old, a student who entered the Girls Be Ambitious Program in February 2016. At that time, she enrolled in the 9th grade at the CREDO school in Angkarnh village, Metoek Commune, Bakan District, Pursat Province. She’s now in grade 10. She’s studying in Preah Mlou High school. She lives in Tamom village.
She has three siblings, a sister and two brothers. She is the second child in her family. Her father is working in the border of Khmer-Thai. Recently, she is living with her mother and grandmother. Her mother is a farmer; she has only 0.5 hectare for farmland. She got yield of rice about one ton a year but she did not sell those rice she keeps to eat during a year. Every month, her father sent money to the family about $80 to $120 to support the family. Out of rice season, her mother makes cakes to sell in the village. The money from selling cakes will fulfill the daily needs of the family and her children school. On the other hand, they have to save money to renovate their house, because now her wooden house is very old house and brittle. She wants her daughter to finish high school and continue to University. In the free time, Ya always helps her mother making cakes and growing some vegetables to sell to the villagers. At night after finished her housework, she usually reads books and does her homework.
In the future, she wants to be a high school teacher. She really likes this job. She wants to work near her homeland. If she gets the salary, she will help her family and support herself to continue at University.
