Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Bann Vannak is 14 years old and is a student in the 8th grade at The Kozak Ohana School in Mohor Village, Chey Commune, Kampong Svay District, Kampong Thom Province.

Vannak has five siblings, three sisters, two brothers and she is the third child in the family. Her parents own one hectare of land in which they can grow up to 700kg or rice per year. This is enough to support the family for the year if they eat small portions, but it is not enough to use to sell. As there is not enough rice to make a profit, Vannack’s parents and eldest brother have to have additional jobs. Vannak’s mother and father both work in another district cutting potatoes, earning $4-5/day, and her eldest brother stopped school to work in grade five, and he now makes $40/month.
